The following speech was given by student Eilat Elbaum on the 2019 Scholarship Award Winning Ceremony:
“Dear WLI representatives,
University Rector,
Faculty and Administration,
Scholarship Award Winners,
Honorable Guests,
“We live in a time of rapid and frequent changes. These changes’ ramifications are not completely known yet. However, they apply to all of us – directly or indirectly, and therefore environment focused research is of the highest significance. Closely examining recent years procedures, their causes and results, allow us to better predict the shape of our world in a few years, decades, or centuries and accordingly offer solutions to restrain the negative effect on the environment.
“Here, in The Advanced School for Environmental Studies, students of all faculties are handling wide-range environmental issues. The generosity of WLI supports multidisciplinary research such as forest tree responses to extreme drought, the effect of ground usage on bee population, geopolitical issues and renewable energy, and the effect of environmental migration on the population’s vulnerability. The information received from these researches, let alone their results, are improving our ability to develop tools by which we may understand large-scale progressions and rationally evaluate technological solutions to environmental issues. These tools increase our adaptability to the changing conditions and our ability to handle them while improving our quality of life.
“On behalf of all scholarship award winners, I wish to thank WLI for the generous funding you have given us, allowing us to focus on our research and expand our scientific knowledge of the environment”.
